Sojourner Truth Legacy Plaza

On hallowed ground!

The Sojourner Truth Legacy Plaza occupies an accessible space adjacent hallowed ground where Truth delivered her powerful speech. Designed by Summit Metro Parks' Dion Harris, the plaza features a floral motif inspired by Truth's Ghanaian heritage, symbolizing her enduring strength and connection to her roots.

At its heart, a life-size bronze statue of Sojourner Truth, sculpted by renowned Akron artist Woodrow Nash, stands as a testament to her courage. The plaza is a collaborative effort, with architectural work provided by GPD Group and construction by the Ruhlin Company.

Unveiling Celebration

The plaza was unveiled on May 29, 2024, attracting hundreds of attendees and featuring several notable speakers. Watch the highlights from this memorable day.
